The FCC has selected 12 "grassroots organizations and local agencies" (e.g. AARP and Communication Service for the Deaf) to help over-the-air viewers prepare for the DTV transition.
The selections are worth up to $8.4 million and are said to be the culmination of a full and open procurement process.

( 3 / 105 )This next story scares me.
It's bad enough to have to deal with drivers in Lima eating breakfast or lunch as they are driving, at the same time talking on their cell phones. Now comes new technology for people to watch TV on their cell phone. I'm going to take RTA from now on.
Deployment of free Mobile TV is rapidly moving forward:

( 3 / 109 )President-elect Barack Obama is urging Congress to postpone the February 17 DTV switch date fearing that too many people aren't ready (Radio World).
As John Eggerton of Broadcasting & Cable put it, "Maybe it was a portent that David Gilliland, NASCAR driver of the Ford that the FCC sponsored to promote the Feb. 17 DTV transition, crashed his first race out."
However, delay is not a certainty at this time, so the only conservative course of action is to stick with our Feb. 17 switch plans unless and until an official postponement is announced.

ESTABLISHMENT OF THE ANALOG NIGHTLIGHT PROGRAM
It's official. The "Nightlight Bill" has become law. Eligible TV stations may keep their analog transmitters on the air for an extra 30 days past the February 17, 2009 DTV switch date to broadcast emergency and DTV switch information on their analog channels. The FCC is to work out the details by mid-month:

( 2.9 / 98 )At 12:50 pm today (Wednesday, January 7, 2009), WLIO stopped broadcasting digital channel 8.3.
This digital channel previously carried NBC's WeatherPlus program which went off the air after December 31, 2008.
Today's change in the subchannel lineup DID NOT affect the broadcast of 8.1 nor 8.2.

Hi Fred, I did another antenna installation Friday (and nearly froze my fingers off)! We were located 3 - 4 miles south of St Marys on SR 66. We installed a 3' tripod and put a Channel Master 4228HD (their new 8 - bay) on a 10' mast pipe in the tripod. I used a Winegard 8275 preamp since Dayton is 55 - 60 miles away and the signals from the Lima stations aren't strong enough to cause overload problems.
The system worked better than I expected, considering the lack of height. We not only received all the Dayton digital stations; we also got a nearly perfect analog signal from WHIO (ch. 7). As I expected, your channel 8 signal came in beautifully after a little fine tuning with the aiming. We even pulled WBGU's digital signal up on channel 56. Mind you this was with the antenna pointed south (away from their, and your location.) Plus, we split the signal between a Sharp HDTV and a bedroom TV which will use a converter box. The only station we couldn't get was WTLW and I found I couldn't get them when I got home eithor. Apparently they're having problems of their own. They're off the air as I type this Saturday morning.
